Welcome to 2010, the decade of . . . well, who knows what but I am damn glad I still live in San Francisco.
Still lost on cough medicine, an inhaler, and Theraflu, we welcomed our first non-smoking guest to stay in the little blue office, Rajiv Satyal. We've known each other for five years on the dot, meeting through my good friend who for now we'll call Dr. P-Mix, while she was meeting the man to become her husband (comedian Eric Campbell).
Rajiv had relocated to Cali permanently about a year before I did, setting up shop in LA and going with full force after his dream to be a comic.
He had gigs that started him at 4:45 last Friday morning and kept him going until far in the night when we finally did dinner just before the drunkeness slipped from bubbly to crazy on our beloved Columbus Avenue. Tandoori Mahal was the choice for the night, and tales of LOST love and questions as we near the finale lasted longer than the naan.
Rajiv had failed to mention the SUV en route with him for this trip, and like any San Franciscan battling North Beach streets on a Friday night, we cut straight to our first hunch garage - total luck. Available. All night parking. Under $30 for 24 hours. (We had to put it in context for Raj. Back in Cincy, $8/night was a big affair.)
We parked on level 2B. We backed in, bumper cam and all. And we walked the garage - a garage (this is a first, thank you SF once again for a surprise) that did not number its spaces. It simply shared with you your good fortune.
Ours?
To give advice . . . well, that's as much as I recall.
I take that as a sign that I should listen more these days.
Raj - you remain an inspiration for all of us battling art and commerce in this business (of life? of entertainment? of sustanence? Choice D - all of the above). Keep it up my friend, keep it up.
Check out Rajiv www.funnyindian.com You know you want to.
Gracias my friend :) The site is in "reconstruction" and I didn't realize I'd hit "post" on this guy.
Ah, you are a National Grammar Month kinda guy, I can tell. You use lovely contractions by the way.

wow... i just saw this... and seeing "the wheel's still in spin" in writing clicks to the point where i'd've gotten the allusion... at least as much as someone who uses double contractions... expansive contractions?
thanks for the shout-out, yo!
